Mothers against Fracking – Protest Letter
After I covered the protest/demonstration from “Mothers against Fracking” they invited me to cover their handover of an official protest letter to Downing Street Nr.1o, the office of prime minister David Cameron
Bloco Black Sound System 2014 – Apresenta : 40 Anos de Hip-Hop – Edição Especial
While I was in Rio to cover the Carnival, I suddenly got a facebook message from a guy I knew from my time in Copenhagen, Denmark, just randomly asking me if I wanted to go to a HipHop street party / bloco later that evening, because he knows the organizer. Was surprised to suddenly get a message after 2 years not speaking, but as glad to get that offer. I sadly was severely delayed as I had to cover some other bloco too… So the party was basically over, but I still got to talk more than an hour (due to my lovely personal translator Sonia, thanks again so much! ) with some awesome people, and they made it all worth while, and they are one of the biggest reasons for me to come back to Rio again!
As there was not much party anymore, I just did some portrait shots of the people around me.
GRES Beija-Flor de Nilópolis parade in the Samadrome
After I had the chance to spend 4 hours at the final rehearsal of the Beija-Flor samba school, (click here) , I of course had to take photos of their final parade inside the Sambadrome in Rio. They were one of the top finalists, and are considered as one of the best carnival schools in general. However this year they sadly did not make it to the top 3. Nevertheless it was a great experience, as well due to the fact that the rehearsal was my first real samba experience, and their parade the last one before I flew home at the end of my trip. The brazilians have a saying that once you experienced carnival, you will never let go of it, and I am def looking forward to next year already! 🙂

GRES Beija-Flor de Nilópolis
I had the great opportunity to take photos at the last public rehearsal of the Samba school Beija-Flor (Hummingbird in english)…
It would be an understatement that it was a crazy experience! 🙂
I was called both brave and crazy by the locals to travel 45 min by an old local train to the suburb outside Rio.. And that with almost no word of portuguese and alone 🙂 The place was huge, and the streets outside packed too as it was a kind of streetparty all around it on top of it.. The entire neighbourhood lives from and for the school, so everybody was in a great mood… I didnt know that a sambaschool easily consists of 3-4000 people, and it was just a huuuuge amount of people in one small space…
Despite the language barrier (thanks to Rac to try to translate! ) , I managed to communicated with some people and was allowed completely open access to the entire rehearsal.

Rio Metroride – Carnival style
I was on my way to another bloco/carnival streetparty, when sudden events in the metro made me drive 7 stops past my original destination 🙂
I was used to that the Brazilians sing and party in the metro/subway/underground.. But what started here evolved into a full-wagon party, with ordinary people, party heads, transvestites, street/favela style guys and and and….
It was amazing to see all of them together, just having fun and partying… wish we would have that all around the world!

Bloco da Favorita
I had the chance to experience Rio’s Carnival at its fullest… Both the big samba school parades, their rehearsals as well as the street parties, or “blocos”
One of the most famous ones is the Bloco da Favorita in São Conrado. It is one of the most expensive suburbs of Rio, with golf clubs etc.. However it is a well right next to one of the biggest favelas of Rio too.. Favela da Rocinha. I did not manage to take photos of this contrast, but it was crazy…
