GRES Beija-Flor de Nilópolis parade in the Samadrome
After I had the chance to spend 4 hours at the final rehearsal of the Beija-Flor samba school, (click here) , I of course had to take photos of their final parade inside the Sambadrome in Rio. They were one of the top finalists, and are considered as one of the best carnival schools in general. However this year they sadly did not make it to the top 3. Nevertheless it was a great experience, as well due to the fact that the rehearsal was my first real samba experience, and their parade the last one before I flew home at the end of my trip. The brazilians have a saying that once you experienced carnival, you will never let go of it, and I am def looking forward to next year already! 🙂

GRES Beija-Flor de Nilópolis
I had the great opportunity to take photos at the last public rehearsal of the Samba school Beija-Flor (Hummingbird in english)…
It would be an understatement that it was a crazy experience! 🙂
I was called both brave and crazy by the locals to travel 45 min by an old local train to the suburb outside Rio.. And that with almost no word of portuguese and alone 🙂 The place was huge, and the streets outside packed too as it was a kind of streetparty all around it on top of it.. The entire neighbourhood lives from and for the school, so everybody was in a great mood… I didnt know that a sambaschool easily consists of 3-4000 people, and it was just a huuuuge amount of people in one small space…
Despite the language barrier (thanks to Rac to try to translate! ) , I managed to communicated with some people and was allowed completely open access to the entire rehearsal.
